Last February, I
was graduated! Finally the struggle had finished on February, 27 2016 with a
very nice result. So, my journey as a university student was ended in my 3,5
years. Satisfaction of course overwhelm us, but like you all know, there’s a
process to achieve it and that’s not easy at all.
Many of my
colleagues asked me about my trick to finish my thesis with a very short time moreover in my 20 years age. Some of them was shocked enough with it. LOL. "Kecil-kecil sudah wisuda, how come?"
In this case, my thesis is an empirical study not a study case which means that
I have to read many books and journals and try to discuss based on previous
study. So, READING from many sources is a KEY!
In this post, I
want to tell my experiences and try to conclude my point of view based on it. I
hope it's useful for you. And I just want to share, not to teach what you
supposed to do. We all learnt based on our experiences. Here you go:
1. In my holiday time, I started to do some research about several topics. I
chose audit, because I like those subject. So, make sure you do a research
because you like those certain subject and you understand well about it. If you
have a passion about certain subject, you’ll enjoy the process on making your
thesis.
- Research topics based on your favorite subject and
passion
2. Browse it and read many journals that connected with topics that you want
to study. Start to make a proposal based on research methodology ways like
define the backgrounds, formulation of the problems, scope of problems, the aim
of research and benefits of research. Understand it because your
supervisor will hear your reason. If you can explain it to them fluently and
those are clear enough to them, I’m sure they’d agree with your submitted
topic. Make prepare some titles to prevent if your supervisor doesn’t agree
with one of your title. The reason also why your supervisor agree is because
it’s still researchable, “hot” issues, and the most important thing you know
what exactly you’re going to do with it. How about if I
- Read a lot, define and master your chosen topics and
make a proposal based on research methodology ways.
3. Sometimes your thesis process got stuck because you can’t meet your
supervisor because they’re busy, go abroad, and etc. In this part, I want to
say, if you can’t meet them, still follow the waiting process patiently. In the
middle of those process, it’s better for you to check your thesis again, either
do some editing like the typo errors, note your research problems or with add some
news into it. At least in those waiting process, you also make a little
progress with your thesis. Stay active to know your supervisor’s schedule, so
when you can reach them, you already ready and know your thesis problems. Tell
them. Let them know.
- Do not give up and still make a little progress with
your thesis! Be persistent!
4. If you got a LOT OF REVISIONS from your supervisor, do not hate it. It’s a
key to make it perfect. And do not make yourself to no do those revisions for a
long time. Don’t postpone to make it. After you got it, make it so what your
supervisor’s advices still fresh on your mind and you could make it well based
on their request.
- Revisions must be made soon. Do not postpone it!
5. Meeting with supervisor based on their schedule. Again, this is a very
common part that you would pass through. Be on time, so you can meet them soon.
Sooner is better!
- Follow your supervisor’s schedule, Be on time!
6. I also realized, when I really want to be graduated in
February, so I set a date as my schedule and make a “To-Do Lists”, and I must
really follow those activities.
- Try to be discipline with your own schedule.
7. Of course in my process on making my thesis, I found a
lot of problems, like my laziness, job in auditing (I was a part timer) also
took my time. I didn’t put all of my focus only on my thesis. But I tried to
divide which one is the most important and also look the limit time of
it. For my laziness, I always remember my resource of my determination to
finish it soon which is with looking photos of my special people.
- Stay focus. Solve the most important thing, don’t
waste your time. Remember the reason to finish it.
